For a limited time WIE is currently offering Free English Courses:

Waikato Institute of Education (WIE) is currently offering Free English classes for Migrants (NZ Resident and Permanent Resident visa holders or citizens). Classes are for 18 weeks (Full Time, Part – Time Morning and Afternoon) or 24 weeks Part Time Evening.

*Tuition is FREE, so students need only pay the textbook fee of $60 ($120 for full time) and a bond of $200 for the course. (Bond is refundable upon course completion and is conditional on student having 85% attendance).

 The courses available are:

General English (Beginner - Intermediate levels) Morning, Afternoon, Evening or Full time
A practical course that focuses on improving the communication skills required for everyday interactions. You will make progress in fluency, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary and gain confidence using English in a variety of practical settings.

NZCEL (Level Foundation – Level4) Morning, Full-Time
This course aims to provide the English you need to reach your goals and increase your confidence to go onto further studies at polytechnics and university.

IELTS Preparation (Upper Intermediate/Advanced) Afternoon, Evening or Full time
This course is intensive and challenging; covering the key skills you need to achieve your desired IELTS results.

OET (Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
OET preparation course is challenging and helps you to improve on English context related to Healthcare professions and give you the skills needed to achieve your results.

TOEIC(Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
This course is designed to give you the confidence you need to achieve your desired TOEIC results.

TOEFL(Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
TOEFL is an intensive course that measures your ability to use and understand English at a University Level. It will help you gain the skills and strategies you need to undertake the Exam.

Cambridge CAE and FCE (Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
These courses are to help you improve in your English level for academic and professional purposes. It will give you the key skills you need to gain the results you want for the exam.

Business English (Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
A practical introduction to the vocabulary, expressions and language of the English-speaking workplace for business and office professionals. You will gain extra skills in the areas of communication and listening comprehension, as well as practice with business correspondence.

Office English (Intermediate – Advanced) Full-Time or Morning with full day on Friday
A practical introduction to the vocabulary, expressions and language of the English-speaking workplace for business and office professionals. You will gain extra skills in the areas of communication and listening comprehension, as well as practice with business correspondence.

Students may be required to sit a placement test (or provide evidence of English level) before they
can start the class.

For students who do not want to study for the 18/24 weeks required for the free course, shorter
courses are offered to domestic students at the following rates:

- Full time classes are from 9am – 3pm (Mon – Fri): $138 per week

- Morning classes are from 9am – 12pm (Mon – Fri): $104 per week

- Afternoon classes are from 1pm – 3pm (Mon – Fri): $68 per week

- Evening classes are from 6pm - 8pm (Tues & Thurs): $68 per week
